How to Measure

How to measure your wall for wallpaper

You’ll need a tape measure, a pen and paper.

  1. Measure the width. Measure from left to right at the top, middle and bottom of the wall. Record the widest measurement.
  2. Measure the height. Measure from the ceiling to the top of the skirting board at the left, centre and right. Record the tallest measurement.
  3. Include doors and windows. For a custom mural, measure the full wall without subtracting these openings. The wallpaper is trimmed around them during installation.
  4. Measure each wall separately. Label them Wall 1, Wall 2, etc. For sloping ceilings, record the maximum height and draw a simple sketch showing the slope.
  5. Check the trimming allowance. Extra wallpaper is needed to allow for uneven walls and trimming. Confirm how much to add before ordering, and whether it is already included.
  6. Double-check and take a photo. Send your measurements as width × height, clearly stating centimetres or millimetres, along with a straight-on photo of each wall.

Example: Wall 1 — 350 cm wide × 240 cm high, before any trimming allowance.

Installation

How to install paste-up wallpaper

You’ll need suitable wallpaper adhesive, a roller or brush, a spirit level, a wallpaper smoother, a sharp trimming knife and a clean sponge.

  1. Prepare the wall. Make sure it is smooth, clean and completely dry. Remove old wallpaper, fill holes and sand uneven areas. Prime or seal the wall where required.
  2. Check the wallpaper. Lay out the panels in the correct order and check the design, colour and measurements before applying adhesive.
  3. Mark a straight starting line. Use a spirit level to draw a vertical guide for the first panel—corners are not always straight.
  4. Apply the adhesive. Use the recommended paste and follow the supplied instructions. Paste-the-wall wallpaper requires adhesive directly on the wall; paste-the-paper wallpaper may require soaking time.
  5. Hang and smooth. Position the first panel against your guide, leaving excess at the top and bottom for trimming. Gently smooth from the centre outwards to remove air bubbles.
  6. Match the next panel. Align the design carefully and follow the supplied instructions for joining the edges. Gently wipe away excess paste immediately with a clean, slightly damp sponge.
  7. Trim and allow to dry. Carefully trim excess wallpaper with a sharp blade. Let it dry naturally, avoiding strong draughts or direct heat.

Care Information

Wallpaper Care & Maintenance

Follow these simple steps to keep them looking their best:

  1. Dust gently. Use a clean, soft microfibre cloth to remove surface dust.
  2. Wipe away marks. Use a soft, slightly damp cloth. For stubborn marks, try a little mild soap diluted in lukewarm water. Always test on a small, hidden area first.
  3. Dry after cleaning. Remove any soap residue with a clean, lightly damp cloth, then gently pat dry. Avoid soaking the wallpaper, particularly around seams and edges.
  4. Protect the finish. Avoid abrasive sponges, vigorous scrubbing, bleach or strong chemicals unless specifically approved for your wallpaper.
  5. Control moisture. Keep rooms well ventilated and address leaks or damp promptly. Anti-fungal and mould-resistant properties do not replace proper moisture control.
